Cross Country Skiing in the Adirondacks

Are you thinking about taking a quick cross-country skiing getaway before the snow stops flying this year? Then you might want to consider making a trip out to Speculator, N.Y. There, you’ll find trails that are perfect for cross-country skiing, regardless of your level of ability. And the best part – they’re free! So you’ll just need to bring your skis, your family and a sense of adventure.

Kunjamuk Loop: If you choose to ski the Kunjamuk Loop in the Village of Speculator, you’ll enjoy trails that range from novice to intermediate. These trails are groomed and marked, and follow the Kunjamuk River.

Lake Pleasant Nature Ski Trail: This trail also features cross-country skiing for both the newbie and the seasoned skier. This trail begins at the old Lake Pleasant firehouse, and there is parking available across the street.

Northville-Lake Placid Trail: Located in Piseco, this trail follows an old logging road and is not groomed, as it is also a hiking trail. This trail is definitely for the intermediate cross-country skier.

Piseco Airport Loop: Also known as the “Foxy Brown” Loop, this trail is partially marked and offers a wide range of trees and terrain. This trail is not usually groomed, so it is best for the more advanced cross-country skier.
